Rivian CFO Claire McDonough is Stepping Down

Tech/AI

Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian announced that Chief Financial Officer Claire McDonough is resigning from her position at the end of October. McDonough, who has guided the company’s financial strategy since 2021, is stepping down to relocate to the East Coast for family reasons and will join energy equipment maker GE Vernova as their new CFO.

Her departure occurs at a pivotal juncture for Rivian as the company ramps up production and commercialization for its new R2 SUV, which recently started shipping to customers. During her tenure, McDonough played a vital role in navigating major milestones, including the company’s 2021 IPO, optimizing production costs, and securing a landmark technology joint venture and investment deal with the Volkswagen Group.

Rivian emphasized that her departure is amicable and not the result of internal disagreements. Vice President of Finance Derek Mulvey will step in as interim CFO while the automaker searches for a permanent replacement to guide its ongoing transition toward profitability and global scale.
