Meta introduces camera-free AI glasses focused on privacy

At its Connect 2026 conference, Meta revealed the Ray-Ban Meta Audio, the company’s first pair of AI glasses built entirely without a camera. This new hardware iteration was developed to address widespread privacy concerns and criticism surrounding the covert video recording capabilities of earlier models.

Starting at $349 and weighing a mere 43 grams, the audio-only device lets users stream media, handle phone calls, translate speech, and interact directly with Meta’s new Muse AI assistant. The elimination of camera hardware enabled a slimmer, lighter frame with improved comfort and a battery life reaching up to 12 hours.

While Meta continues to expand its camera-equipped line as well, these audio-centric glasses offer a discreet alternative akin to smart earbuds. Preorders for the new eyewear are scheduled to begin in mid-October.
