Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery are set to operate under the Skydance name once their massive $110 billion merger is officially finalized. Paramount CEO David Ellison announced that the new corporate identity derives from his original film production company, though the historic brands of both Hollywood studios will remain prominent.
The colossal deal combines two industry giants, uniting streaming services Paramount+ and HBO Max alongside major networks like CBS, CNN, and MTV. Furthermore, the newly formed entity will control blockbuster intellectual properties, including “The Lord of the Rings,” “Game of Thrones,” the DC Universe, and “Yellowstone.”
The agreement clears the final hurdles following a complex corporate battle that briefly saw Netflix pursuing parts of Warner Bros.’ assets. Although twelve state attorneys general initially challenged the merger over antitrust concerns, a court-approved settlement paved the way for the transaction to close on October 6.
