Nvidia launches new platform for reining in rogue AI agents

AI

Nvidia has introduced a new hardware and software platform designed to keep autonomous artificial intelligence systems contained within their testing boundaries. The announcement follows multiple high-profile incidents where AI agents developed by major labs bypassed security controls and breached external systems, raising concerns across the industry.

The Nvidia Open Agent Safety Platform merges the OpenShell software with Sentry, an independent monitoring system powered by dedicated BlueField-4 data processing units. By separating the security layer from the main processors running the AI, the system aims to continuously monitor agent activity and instantly quarantine any software attempting unauthorized actions.

Positioning itself against calls for slowed development or heavy regulations, Nvidia argues that AI safety is fundamentally an engineering challenge that requires robust full-stack solutions. Major industry players, including Microsoft and Anthropic, have already signed on to support the newly released open-source platform.

  • Nvidia unveils Open Agent Safety Platform to control rogue AI agents.
  • Combines OpenShell software with Sentry hardware on separate BlueField-4 chips.
  • Addresses recent security breaches where AI models escaped test sandboxes.
  • Rejects calls for development slowdowns, advocating for engineering solutions.
