$5.7B Scaleup Europe Fund Launches With ICEYE Backing

The European Commission has announced that the Scaleup Europe Fund, a unique $5.7 billion public-private investment vehicle, is now fully operational. Designed to tackle the late-stage funding gap for European tech startups, the initiative aims to keep promising companies within the EU and strengthen the continent’s technological sovereignty.

Finnish satellite intelligence firm ICEYE became the first startup backed by the fund, securing co-lead status in its Series F round. Managed by Swedish asset manager EQT, the vehicle launched with a €1 billion anchor investment from the Commission alongside major institutional investors across Europe.

The fund’s mandate spans critical areas such as deep tech, AI, clean tech, and space infrastructure. With fundraising efforts extending toward 2027, the initiative represents a major step forward in scaling European tech champions to global leadership levels.
