Nuclear power startup Fermi has appointed Lee McIntire as its new CEO, more than three months following the departure of co-founder Toby Neugebauer. McIntire brings extensive experience from his leadership roles at Bill Gates-backed TerraPower and CH2M Hill, positioning him to oversee the company’s complex infrastructure projects.
The leadership transition coincides with a major commercial milestone: Fermi secured TensorWave as its first binding customer for the Project Matador campus in Amarillo, Texas. The massive facility aims to power next-generation artificial intelligence data centers using dedicated nuclear reactors.
These developments have provided a much-needed boost to investor confidence, driving Fermi’s stock up by nearly 23%. With a stable leadership team now in place, the company enters its ‘Fermi 2.0’ phase, focusing heavily on execution, safety, and timely construction delivery.
