Blizzard has officially announced the return of the iconic StarCraft franchise, more than a decade after the last expansion for StarCraft II. Revealed during BlizzCon, the upcoming game simply titled StarCraft will take the series in a brand-new direction as an open-world shooter, moving away from its traditional real-time strategy roots.
This ambitious project follows the historical cancellation of the long-delayed StarCraft: Ghost. A cinematic trailer showcased at the event highlighted the United Earth Directorate faction preparing for brutal combat against the Zerg, leaning heavily into a gritty and unforgiving portrayal of interstellar warfare.
While fans are thrilled to see the dormant universe revived, many are still hoping for a future installment that returns to the classic RTS gameplay formula that defined the series.
