Reliance’s JioHotstar goes global in three markets without sports

JioHotstar, the major streaming platform backed by Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries, is taking its first steps outside domestic borders. The service is officially replacing Hotstar in the UK, Canada, and Singapore, marking the beginning of an ambitious international expansion strategy.

Despite the crucial role that live sports play in driving massive viewership for the platform in India, the initial global rollout will focus exclusively on entertainment content. Users in these markets will gain access to over 160,000 hours of movies, TV shows, and live channels across 12 languages, while existing Hotstar subscribers transition smoothly to the new application.
